¿Por qué aprender Español?

Learning a foreign language opens the mind and expands horizons. The students will not only learn new words, but an entirely new way of expressing themselves. Students will learn traditions and customs from various cultures and hopefully realize along the way that those persons from other cultures and who speak different languages are not so very different after all.

Objetivos

Each class will expose the students to enriching aspects of the Spanish language and diverse Spanish-speaking cultures. We aim to improve the students listening and reading comprehension, and oral skills while expanding cultural awareness through various methods including songs, games, rhymes, study, and individual and group creations. We want the students to walk away with not only having acquired new vocabulary and new cultural facts, but also with a new appreciation and love for Spanish.

• Students will learn vocabulary used in daily life such as food, body parts, family, nature and animals
• Students will learn short, commonlyused phrases such as greetings, and common, simple questions and answers
• Students will learn short songs and rhymes and be exposed to native art
• Students will learn the alphabet in Spanish and be able to recognize some short words
• We will learn about and celebrate holidays such as Christmas, various Independence Days, Day of the Dead and Cinco de Mayo

• Students will be able to express ideas more completely recalling vocabulary and sentence structure
• Students will learn present-tense verb conjugations
• Students will be able to read short, simple paragraphs in Spanish
• Younger students will compose short skits, and older students will present an oral and written report on a chosen Spanish-speaking country
• We will learn about and celebrate holidays such as Christmas, various Independence Days, Day of the Dead and Cinco de Mayo

• Students will be able to speak and write with more confidence and fluency
• Students will practice their skills through more complex exercises and dialogues
• Students will reach a higher level of listening and reading comprehension
• Students will learn past as well as present-tense verb conjugations and learn pro-noun usage
• Students will present an oral and written report on a chosen Spanish-speaking country
• We will learn about and celebrate holidays such as Christmas, various Independence Days, Day of the Dead and Cinco de Mayo
